Cerro Catedral Ski Resort, Argentina

Train

Cerro Catedral (Mount Cathedral)

Its peaks resemble the towers of a Gothic style medieval temple. That is the reason for its name. Cerro Catedral (Mount Cathedral), located 12 miles from the City of San Carlos de Bariloche and inside the Nahuel Huapí National Park, opens its doors to those who wish to experience the adventure promised by winter sports.

At 3,400 feet above sea level, Cerro Catedral seems to try to join the ground and the sky. A pioneer among South American ski resorts, at present it is the most complete and it continues updating its facilities in order to offer visitors the most advanced infrastructure. Cerro Catedral offers 600 hectares (1,500 acres) of skiable terrain divided into 53 well-signed runs of various difficulties. The summit reaches over 7,800 feet giving 3,500 feet of vertical.

All skiing disciplines, including off-piste, are available. There is a terrain park and a half pipe for those adventurous free riders.

Area Profile
Catedral resort is South America’s most developed ski resort and the only resort with a full-service base village. The terrain is highly varied, and there are more than 40 lifts, including the new La Laguna lift that takes skiers to backcountry chutes and bowls.

Catedral is known for deep powder, excellent tree skiing, and easily accessed off-piste terrain, and although the resort’s location and lower elevation means the base area can be patchy, the resort has invested in snowmaking equipment and added or modernized lifts to the upper limits.

Modernizing Efforts
For the past 4 four years, Cerro Catedral has spent more than 23 million pecos to update the resort. The plan, competed for the 2008 season, gives the resort more than 40 lifts and a 33,000 skier per hour capacity.

Likewise, access will be controlled by a system of hands-free passes which works through radio frequency. Therefore, it will not be necessary to show the pass in order to get on the lifts, as it may be detected even if it is inside a pocket or a backpack.

Furthermore, Catedral has a modern snow-making system which creates real flakes that cover a skiable surface of about 10 hectares (24 acres).

Ski Rentals
Ski technology is constantly being developed and renewed, that is why every year Catedral Resort adds up the most modern equipments.

  • Ski equipments: more than 7,000 for all levels
  • Snowboard equipments: 2,500
  • Ski and snowboard free testing located at 5,200 ft. (1,600 m)
  • Individual Dryers for ski and snowboard boots
