About Rio de Janerio—
Rio de Janeiro is one of the most spectacular cities— a natural harbor with good beaches surrounded by green mountains. Rio is Brazil’s best known city in the world. Rio's climate is tropical.

Rio is famous for its spectacular natural setting, its Carnival celebrations, samba and other music, hotel-lined tourist beaches, such as Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon and pavements decorated with black and cream swirl pattern mosaics.

Some of the most famous local landmarks in addition to the beaches include

  • Ipanema Beach
Popularized by the song "The Girl from Ipanema," this world-famous beach gives foreign visitors a sense of life in Rio, displaying a cross-section of different lifestyles, chic boutiques, eateries and luxurious apartment buildings.

Ipanema is adjacent to Copacabana Beach, but it is distinctive from its neighbor as it is distinctively more expensive. It is relatively easy to navigate because streets are lined in a grid.

Private infrastructure has created world-class restaurants, cafes and shopping. At the forefront of beach culture are the many surfers and sun worshippers who socialize daily at the beach.

  • Copacabana Beach
Copacabana is a borough located in the southern zone of the city Rio de Janeiro, famous for its 4 km beach.

The district was originally called Sacopenapã until the mid-18th century. It was renamed after the construction of a chapel holding a replica of the Virgin of Copacabana, Bolivia. It was incorporated into the city on July 6, 1892.

For sunning, relaxing and people watching, join the thousands who flock each year to this lively, world-famous beach lined with shops, bars, restaurants and hotels.

  • Corcovado
Corcovado, meaning "hunchback" in Portuguese, is a mountain in central Rio de Janeiro

The 710-meter (2,330 ft) granite peak is located in the Tijuca Forest. Corcovado mountain lies just west of the city center but is wholly within the city limits and visible from great distances. It is known worldwide for the 38-meter (125 ft) statue of Jesus that graces its peak, entitled Cristo Redentor' or "Christ the Redeemer".

  • Sugar Loaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar)
Sugarloaf Mountain (in Portuguese, Pão de Açúcar), is a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from the mouth of Guanabara Bay on a peninsula that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean. Rising 396 meters (1,300 ft) above sea-level, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar.

The mountain is only one of several monolithic morros of granite and quartz that rise straight from the water's edge around Rio de Janeiro. A glass-paneled cable car runs along a 1400-metre route between the peaks of Babilônia and Urca. The original cable car line was built in 1912.

So familiar is this peak, the mere sight of it in a film is sufficient to establish the setting as Rio.

  • Tijuca National Park
Tijuca Forest, called Floresta da Tijuca, is the world's largest forest inside an urban area. You’ll find historical spots, spectacular views, a beautiful waterfall, a small chapel and unusual trees in this dense, tropical national park, probably best explored by jeep tour.
